Control Systems Designer
Position Summary:
KLH Engineers, Inc. is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Control Systems Designer to work with both new control panel design and existing controls panel retrofit design. The role involves creating innovative designs for control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality projects. This opportunity is best suited for an individual who thrives with learning the inner workings of SCADA control systems. This candidate will work with AutoCAD Electrical for the design and will be heavily involved with making these solutions work in the field. All work is local travel to the surrounding Pittsburgh area and our office in Canonsburg, PA. There will be opportunity to grow into other positions within the SCADA engineering department as well, to include programming, service, networking, and other miscellaneous SCADA system operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Perform system design evaluations to identify potential improvements or modifications.
- Control panel design and reverse engineering existing control panel retrofits.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all design processes, changes, and specifications.
- Develop schematics, bills of materials, and wiring drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop design-build quality panel drawings for local panel shop.
- Work closely with local panel shop to answer questions and/or finalize designs, BOM, etc.
- Determine electrical equipment wiring connections for functionality and operability.
- Determine electrical system requirements by sizing breakers, fuses, transformers, and other electrical equipment as required.
- Work with SCADA engineers on wiring requirements and connections for PLCs and other SCADA controls related equipment
- Assist with installation of controls equipment in the field.
- Work within control panels and equipment, typically in low voltage environment, using Multimeters and other test equipment to troubleshoot issues.
- Control system design, upgrades, and retrofitting outdated PLC and HMI equipment, mostly focused on Allen Bradley/Rockwell appliances.
- Field service and troubleshooting is a key component to support numerous clients who have control systems with PLCs, HMIs, and other related SCADA equipment. Travel to client sites and interact with clients on a regular basis.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Read and understand electrical drawings.
- AutoCAD electrical drafting.
- Control Panel, Instrumentation and Control equipment.
- Hands on experience in reverse engineer electrical panels in the field.

Control Systems Engineer
Position Summary:
KLH Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Control Systems Engineer / Technician for our rapidly growing SCADA group. The ideal candidate will have an Electro-Mechanical degree or relevant experience in control system integration. This position is well-suited for someone with networking / computer skills as well as hands on electrical and/or electronics experience. Responsibilities include PLC and HMI programming, field installation, commissioning, and testing. Travel is geographically focused in western Pennsylvania with the majority local to the Pittsburgh area. Seeking a candidate with 1-3 years of experience, but training may be provided for driven entry level candidates with some of the basic experience noted above
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Perform SCADA design, support, programming, testing, startup, training, and other related functions required for successful completion of automation projects and system integration.
- Coordinate efforts with drafting, electrical design, and peers to complete projects.
- PLC, HMI, SCADA programming on a regular basis.
- Industrial networking. Configure and manage SCADA networks to include: Firewalls, Modems, Managed Switches, VLANs, VPN, VNC, and other general networking appliances to support typical SCADA equipment networks.
- Work within control panels and equipment, typically in low voltage environment, using Multimeters and other test equipment.
- Control system design, upgrades, and retrofitting outdated PLC and HMI equipment, mostly focused on Allen Bradley/Rockwell appliances.

Other Responsibilities:
- The primary role of this position is to support the planning, design, and implementation of automated process control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in coordination with clients and multidiscipline teams to develop solutions for construction and implementation in the Water/Wastewater market sectors.
- Additional roles include Control Systems programming, testing, implementation and commissioning the control system as designed.
- In this role, the Water/Wastewater Control Systems Engineer will lead the assessment of existing control systems and planning activities related to control systems improvements and replacement.
- This position involves exercising judgment in evaluation and selection of equipment and system components and coordinating closely with multidiscipline design teams through all stages of design including schematic, design development, and construction documents.
- The individual will be responsible for creating biddable and technically accurate construction documents including drawings and specifications, as well as conducting reviews of documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines and will also be involved in coordination during construction phases including the review of shop drawings and construction observation.
- The individual must be self-motivated with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically excellent SCADA/I&C designs.
- Travel to client facilities to participate in field activities to assess and document the current state of installed control systems.
- Participate in design review and planning meetings with the client.
- Lead the development of preliminary engineering reports and Studies focused on recommending and developing solutions for control system improvements.
- Serve as Engineer of Record in responsible charge for the development of biddable and technically accurate SCADA/I&C construction documents.
- Interface with Electrical and Process Engineers to fully coordinate design requirements for network, power, control, and instrumentation.

Construction Inspector
Position Summary:
KLH is currently seeking to fill two (2) positions in Erie County, PA.
As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring quality control and compliance with construction standards on various projects, including water infrastructure and wastewater treatment facilities. Reporting to the Construction Manager, your core skills in construction inspection and analysis will be essential in evaluating work against blueprints and schematics. You will utilize your relevant skills in construction management and data collection to monitor project progress. Your role is vital in maintaining quality of construction, contributing to overall project success.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Regular interaction with property owners, contractors, clients, and engineers
- Perform on-site inspections in determining if work is in accordance with contract documents.
- Written reporting of operations, measurements and installed quantities.
- Attend job meetings, such as pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, job conferences and other project-related meetings.
- Respond to project emergencies on behalf of the project manager at the direction of the project manager.
- Review applications for payment with Contractor for compliance with the established procedure for their submission and forward with recommendations to project manager.
- Comply with all company safety policies and rules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of construction observation experience on water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications and plans.
- Ability to communicate ideas and technical information to staff, supervisors and clients in a professional manner both verbally as well as with clear, concise written correspondence.

Senior Design Engineer
Position Summary:
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for process and detailed design associated with municipal water/wastewater treatment plants and pump stations. The Senior Design Engineer will report to KLH’s Director of Engineering and will work directly with KLH’s project managers.
Responsibilities:
· Preliminary meetings with clients to gain an understanding of existing conditions, problems, and scope of work.
· Ability and willingness to complete site visits to gain a complete understanding of existing conditions and space constraints.
· Analyze operating data and complete predictive modeling and calculations as required to size pumps, blowers, and treatment processes.
· Complete treatment plant hydraulic profile calculations.
· Complete mass balance and process calculations.
· Prepare planning and design reports for client and regulatory review.
· Coordinate work with Geotechnical, Civil/Site, Structural, HVAC, Electrical, and Process Control disciplines.
· Work with CAD staff to produce and manage drawing sets.
· Prepare and submit permit applications.
· Prepare contract specifications for public bid.
· Work with the Project Manager to provide technical support during the project bid phase.
· Work with the Project Manager and clients to provide technical support during construction phase including: submittal review, RFI review, field engineering as required to accommodate unforeseen conditions, and oversee process/equipment startup and testing.
